Theo Walcott’s Everton move
While most of the attention remains on Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, it’s looking like the first player to leave Arsenal this January will be Theo Walcott.
On Tuesday morning, the Times journalist Paul Joyce has taken to social media to report that Walcott is about to sign for Everton.
Without specifying the precise timetable for the deal, Joyce notes that the transfer is “close”.
Does the mean it will be wrapped up on Tuesday?
When it comes to the finances, Everton are paying Arsenal £20 million for the 28-year-old forward.
Walcott has been at Arsenal for 12 years. Many will argue the England international never fulfilled his potential at the Gunners.
As for Everton, it’s been a busy summer at Goodison Park already. Cenk Tosun has joined the Toffees from Besiktas in a 27 million pound deal.
But rather than signing more attacking players, should Sam Allardyce be looking at bringing in defenders instead?
Arsenal & Alexis Sanchez
So what’s happened with Alexis Sanchez leaving Arsenal?
The big development on Monday night was that Man City’s interest in signing Alexis this January appears to be over.
But rather than leaving Man United as the sole suitor for the Chilean, the Times on Tuesday have dragged Chelsea into the mix. The Times report:
Chelsea have made a late attempt to stop Alexis Sánchez from joining Manchester United after Manchester City pulled out of the race to sign the Arsenal forward last night.
Chelsea’s interest in the Chilean became known yesterday evening, but United are now viewed as the most likely destination for the 29-year-old.
So what’s the likely outcome for Sanchez?
That remains unclear, while it’s still possible he does remain at Arsenal until the end of the season.
