Mikel Arteta, former footballer of Arsenal and Everton, announced on Sunday, the official Twitter account that will be part of Manchester City’s staff, from the position of coach at the club.
Aged 34, Arteta was retired from football at the end of the 2015-2016 Premier League season. The Spaniard admitted that he can not perform at a high level, according to the band claims Arsenal.
Arteta has decided to work with his former coach at Barcelona, Pep Guardiola, who came to Etihad Stadium this summer. The press writes that former England midfielder turned down a bid from Tottenham Hotspur.
Sunday, Mikel Arteta has posted an official statement on his Twitter account about the future football career step:
“Following recent speculation in the media about my future, I can confirm that I leave Arsenal, I will retire from football career and will be part of the technical team of Manchester City. I spent five years fabulous Arsenal it was an honor and a privilege to be the captain of such a big club. I want to thank my colleagues, coaches, management and fans to support extraordinary that I had during my stay. I’ll never forget the time spent here and keep FA Cup and Community Shield remembrance won consecutive seasons.
I look forward to the challenge of Manchester City. The opportunity to play alongside Pep Guardiola and his team is fabulous for my future. I worked a lot lately to develop my skills coach and I was privileged to work with some very good technicians. I will use part of what I learned from them, which will add my experience to the players. “
